Madagascar’s extractive sector represents a true lever for development, which is why the government is focusing on strengthening transparency in the sector, including reaffirming its commitment to implementing the EITI Standard.
The country’s strong mining potential, whose scale is well known, is further enhanced by the recent overhaul of the Mining Code, aimed at giving Madagascar top-tier attractiveness. Indeed, the country is rich in strategic resources, including minerals essential for the energy transition.
But this attractiveness cannot be complete without the transparency mentioned above; it is fundamental and indispensable for creating an environment conducive to the promotion of both national and foreign investments. As a mark of accountability, it is also a duty of the administration, which the government particularly upholds in line with the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, who has emphasized the importance of good governance as one of the three pillars of the State’s General Policy.
Through the EITI, we are therefore establishing a process aimed at a multi-stakeholder development objective: for the population, for investors, and for the State. The EITI strengthens the accountability of oil, mining, and gas projects and puts the country on the path to economic prosperity.
Olivier RAKOTOMALALA, Minister of Mines
